Racism has been rampant in this country which claims to be equal and free. It is almost as if there has been no progress from when there were the original civil rights movement decades ago. Time and time again, the country has proven that it has not made any progress; people of color are still mistreated and white privilege is truly real. It has come to the point that African Americans cannot even enjoy basic activities without living in constant fear of discrimination or even death.

After the brutal murder of George Floyd by white police officers, peaceful protests broke out across the country. Using the 1st amendment right of assembly, peaceful marches and protests were the way for the public to bring attention to the Black Lives Matter movement. However, police and other people of authority made the protests violent by using tools like tear gas. The protests are always peaceful but the media, news outlets, and even the President make them look like they were riots and always violent. The fact that even the police can’t be trusted shows how messed up a lot of the country is. Even President Trump went away to a bunker in fear because of all the protests. As Irish artist and singer Niall Horan tweeted: “So Trump is now in a bunker?? His country is struggling and he’s hiding in a bunker?” Horan and many other celebrities’ involvement in this movement shows how this has spread internationally and change is needed.
